Verona Sorensen graduated in 1998 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia University in Montreal. She has also completed specialized training in painting and encaustic work. ‘This new series, entitled ‘Quiet Fire’ dances with the thought of a certain ‘calm’ and ‘fierceness’ that come together and emerge into one.
A fierceness and calm like…India…or a Samurai warrior… …like a howling shadow that prances merrily and mischievously on the periphery of your awareness… that will at times lay down and disappear into the darkness when the lights go out…. or on. Like the desert line…raw, bare and deadly…still, silent and serene. Like Kali with her swords and weapons, crazed and battling … for love and light. Fierce and quiet like nature…Poseidon’s ocean wrath and rapture… kissing the sky and it’s blue world, passionately…. then still……for eyes to meditate upon.’ Her paintings are found in private collections throughout Canada, USA, Italy and Mexico. |
